…to clean a rug stain with laundry detergent?
You’ll only create more of a mess. Laundry detergent is so concentrated that even a tiny bit will suds up too much to be effective, says Mark Tarbox, owner of Best Carpet Cleaning Experts in San Antonio, TX. “It leaves behind a soapy residue that soaks deep into fibers and attracts even more dirt,” Tarbox says. Also, detergent generally has a high alkaline content, which can cause wool and cotton carpets to turn yellow or brown. For DIY spot cleaning, blot the stain with a rag dipped in either club soda or a quart of water mixed with a drop of mild dish soap.
